Why I Became A Therapist

Violence – to wrap my head around which, I got interested in Psychology and eventually in therapy. I wish to see a world without violence yet with authentic anger expressed usefully, being honored and revolutionizing the world. I wish to create a courageous space for nurturing assertion and peace.

Growing up in a multireligious, multicultural family and community, I developed a deep sensitivity to diversity and a passion for fostering inclusion. This foundation inspired me to pursue a career where I could support others in navigating their unique stories and challenges. I see mental health as deeply tied to social and systemic realities and strive to create spaces where people feel valued, accepted and celebrated with all their differences.

My Approach as a Therapist

I am a trauma-focused psychotherapist with a Master’s Degree in Applied Counselling psychology from TISS (Mumbai). My work is grounded in a trauma-informed, queer, and caste-affirmative, systemic, and intersectional understanding of mental health. I view therapy as a collaborative journey, walking alongside my clients with empathy and curiosity. I emphasize the importance of validating peoples’ contextual realities while facilitating them to recognize and harness their resources and agency. My therapy practice is influenced by Internal Family Systems therapy, Narrative practices, Existential, Gestalt, Trauma-focused, and Couple and Family therapy approaches. I integrate evidence-based practices with approaches that resonate with each client’s unique needs, fostering meaningful personal awareness and growth.

Lived Experience and My Therapy Philosophy

I come with a lived experience of being an only child in a multireligious family, one of which being a minority. I also have a lived experience of my ancestors facing significant trauma and violence. I believe in the radical potential of therapy to transform individuals and societies with increased integrity and compassion. When people heal and are not reacting to survive from danger, they have more resource to stay aligned with their values.

My therapy practice involves holding a safe, courageous, and authentic space where people feel valued, worthy, and accepted as they make changes toward what they want for themselves. I have worked with individuals across all age groups, as well as with couples and families, meeting a wide range of concerns and wisdom. I was the Counselling Psychologist, Project Coordinator, and Trainer at my passion project “Maanasa,” which involved providing holistic mental health, development, and skilling services for children in conflict with the law (under the JJ Act, 2015), their families, and the staff at the Observation Home in Madivala, Bangalore. I have also trained and facilitated workshops with teachers, schools, children, justice systems, and organizations on creating trauma-informed schools, observation homes, and workspaces, and implementing inclusion and diversity practices. Beyond my professional life, I am goofy, artistic, and spiritual — connecting with nature, literature, poetry, gardening, children’s books, and art-accompanied meditation. I am fluent in Telugu, Hindi, and English.
