Group Supervision for Early Career Therapists

As an early career therapist, the journey can feel deeply meaningful and exciting — but also overwhelming. Alongside navigating ethical considerations, you’re also learning how to set boundaries, develop cultural competence, balance the pressure of “doing and being enough,” and still remain fully present with your clients.

At Talking Distance, we are starting a Group Supervision Series for early career therapists seeking a safe, supportive platform to discuss the realities and challenges of beginning clinical practice.

Free Introductory Session

1. Transference and counter transference

📅 31st October 🕔 5:00 pm IST 💻 Online

We will bring to this space how emotions felt by both the client and the therapist, towards each other, impact the therapeutic relationship. It can also be easy to miss as a beginner therapist. This sessions will also allow you to use these emotions as tools to explore the client’s world, protecting the therapeutic relationship. Having a safe, protected space to unpack these feelings and situations, can help you learn more about yourself but also stay grounded in your therapy session.

2. Setting Boundaries in session

📅 14th Nov 🕔 5:00 pm IST 💻 Online

Sheds light on the difficult moments therapists may face at the beginning of their career, like when and how to interrupt the client gently, set out of office hours and stick to it, and remain ethical and honest about what they can and cannot offer. Knowing how to process personal feelings about these sticky situations, and how to set a gentle but firm boundary is what supervision helps you with.

3. Battling Imposter Syndrome

📅 28th Nov 🕔 5:00 pm IST 💻 Online

Battling Imposter Syndrome -Always hits the mark. Not a topic openly discussed, we want to reduce the shame and self judgement that comes with feeling “not good enough” that many new therapists feel. Supervisors generally help focus on their strengths and growth, rather than what they aren’t doing well. Bridging the theory-practice gap is one of the major takeaways from this session.

4. Navigating Silence

📅 12th Dec 🕔 5:00 pm IST 💻 Online

Navigating silence in sessions – has so much to be said about. New therapists can be stumped with silences in sessions, not knowing when a silence is reflective versus empty, and they often feel anxious or awkward in moments like these. Practicing new ways of responding, and checking in with the clients, are also goals that are worked on.
